THERAPIES AND TREATMENTS
AT FLAGLER

Physical therapy.
When you’re injured or experiencing a change in your abilities, nothing seems right. You’re missing out on your favorite activities. You may be missing work, unable to earn a living or require assistance to take care of yourself. At the Flagler Institute for Rehabilitation, our physical therapists use gentle, hands-on methods to treat your condition and achieve improved function as fast as possible. This means fewer visits. It also means getting you back to your job, your family — your life — faster. Plus, we don’t just treat your symptoms — we show you how to keep them from coming back.

Occupational therapy.
The Flagler Institute for Rehabilitation’s occupational therapists work independently and with our other specialists to offer effective solutions for patients who need rehabilitation. Our goal is to maximize your abilities so you can lead the safest, most independent life possible. While occupational therapy and physical therapy each have their own unique strengths, there is nothing more powerful than the combination of both.

We will evaluate the physical, psychosocial and cognitive barriers that might be compromising your ability to live on your own or that keep you from performing daily functions that most people take for granted. Here are some of the many conditions that our physical and occupational therapists treat:

• Osteoarthritis • Postsurgical joint-replacement rehabilita-tion, including hip and knee surgery
• Back and neck pain • Spinal conditions
• Shoulder and arm pain
• Balance disorders
• Leg, hip, knee, ankle and foot pain
• Hand pain/carpal tunnel syndrome
• Sports injuries • Work injuries
• Auto injuries
• Numbness and tingling
• TMJ pain
• Diabetes, obesity and other systemic disorders

Some of the many benefits of our physical and occupational therapy services include:

• Restore your ability to carry out daily functions
• Help you adjust to disabilities
• Rekindle your optimism
• Reawaken an interest in hobbies or going places
• Help you return to work safely and with confidence
• Educate caregivers and family about your disability and how to assist you.

The Therapists and Staff at the
Flagler Institute for Rehabilitation

Tomorrow’s technology... today.

In order to provide you with the highest level of care possible, we stay on top of the latest developments in our respective fields. Our facility features many state-of-the-art advances, including:

• Juzo® perometer — Uses safe infrared light to accurately and quickly measure the length and circumference of limbs. This is especially useful for tracking the results of lymphedema treatment.

• SMART Balance Master® — This is the "gold standard" for treating patients with balance and vestibular disorders. It helps our therapists accurately identify impairments for more effective treatment planning.

• PowerPlate — This is a state-of-the-art whole-body vibration system that can improve balance.

• Complete in-office hydraulic and strength gym — Our large in-office gym features a variety of state-of-the-art hydraulic equipment.

Lymphedema treatment.
Here at the Flagler Institute for Rehabilitation, we’ve made lymphedema treatment one of the cornerstones of our practice. We have multiple therapists who are certified in lymphedema treatment, which requires a minimum of 135 hours of additional training after college graduation. In addition, our staff includes the first physical therapist in Palm Beach County to become certified by the prestigious Vodder School of Lymphatic Studies.

Our therapists use today’s most advanced methods for manual lymph drainage (MLD). These gentle, noninvasive hands-on manual therapy techniques drain the lymph fluids from the limb utilizing the superficial lymph vessels. MLD is highly effective in areas of the body that have suffered injury, undergone surgery, developed stasis due to circulatory deficits and more.

We also offer combined or complex decongestive therapy (CDT), which is a combination of MLD, compression bandaging, exercises and skin care. CDT is often used to treat lymphedema caused by oncologic surgery, such as post-mastectomy lymphedema.

Cancer rehabilitation.

Whether you’re in treatment or on your way to full recovery, we can help you improve your functional status and your overall quality of life. Some of the many benefits of our cancer rehabilitation therapy include:

• Increased physical/aerobic capacity
• Improved hemoglobin levels
• Reduced nausea
• Support immune function
• Less swelling
